Surgical Department at Danita’s Children

The vision and dream was always to offer high quality surgical care while being a safe place to hear the love and joy of the gospel and now we are providing that. In North-East Haiti, there is not a surgical program available specifically for children, so, the word is spreading all over the country of the care that we are providing.

Patients travel two or three hours away and even from the capital, Port-au Prince, to receive this care. We are not only reaching North-East Haiti, but this program is impacting the whole country.

In the beginning, we didn’t know if a Haitian surgical team was available in our location. Therefore, we had surgical teams fly into Haiti. Due to the unrest in Haiti the past couple of years, teams have not been able to visit Haiti, but we have an incredibly skilled Haitian surgical team that has been able to come!

Partnering with them allows us to use the resources we are given more effectively, which then in turn, allows us to reach more children. It is an honor and a blessing to have such a great Haitian surgical team with us. 

This month is the four year anniversary of opening our operating room and we have performed many life-changing surgeries and are on our way to do more. We continue to have a large waiting list of children that are in need, therefore, looking forward, our hope is to do more surgeries in October. However, it is dependent on two major things: SAFETY and FUEL. As of right now, there is a national fuel crisis and unrest everywhere, including Ouanaminthe. We continue to pray for divine intervention so that this work can move forward for the countless children still in waiting. 

To see the life of a child be transformed by surgery is a once in a lifetime experience. We see the fear of the unknown and how that quickly turns into hope, just by getting surgery. You, as a donor, are a part of that life-changing experience. It is an honor to have you walk alongside us, empowering us to make this surgical program possible. We have seen so many miracles already and cannot wait to see more.

There is one miracle that had a ripple effect on countless others. It is the story of how surgery for one child impacted her mother so greatly that it ended up inspiring the lives of many, all because of our surgical program. For all the lives that have already been changed, to the endless number of children yet to come, thank you.
