There are many facets to loving and caring for orphans. At Danita's Children, we maintain an approach to orphan care that not only provides for daily needs, but that provides for the development of a child's whole being - physically, spiritually, emotionally and academically. We believe in well-rounded care; that by tending to all the needs of a child, he/she will grow in love and become prepared, ultimately, to someday leave our four walls, become healthy contributors in their community and share that love and care with others.

When Danita moved to Haiti in 1999, she was not entirely sure of the scope of her ministry. She knew that her heart was for children, and that Haiti, one of the poorest countries in the world and home to over 450,000 orphans, was a place in desperate need of orphan care.
Danita saw children in need everywhere she looked. There was no governmental infrastructure to help the children, no social organizations, and no shelter for the children to go to. Orphans were left to roam the streets, begging for food, and in the end, to repeat the cycle of poverty that left their parents either dead or too poor to care for them. In her heart, Danita knew something had to be done.
In January 2000, she took in her first orphan, a five-year-old boy. With his arrival, Hope for Haiti Children's Center became a reality. As Danita took in more and more children, the vision grew quickly. There are now 74 children living with Danita and her staff, whose care allows them to not only survive, but to thrive and grow into adults who can and will positively effect the future of their communities and nation.
Each child's life is special.
