Lubenson's Story

Lubenson Returns To Haiti

After spending the last few months in America recovering from surgery, Mami Karris came to pick up Lubenson and return home. He couldn't be more excited to see all of his friends and missed Haiti very much.

We couldn't thank you more for all of your continued support and prayers for Lubenson and all of the kids at Danita's Children.

Lubenson Turns Six Years Old!

While successfully recovering in the states and experiencing lots of "firsts", Lubenson just celebrated his sixth birthday with Mami Danita!

We are so grateful for our faithful supporters and those of you who have been continuously praying for Lubenson and Danita's Children. Thanks for celebrating with us!

Recovery

Lubenson's surgery went perfectly, and he is still at the hospital recovering. Thank you again for all the prayers and support. Although he is still hooked up to an IV, he is being a kid as usual:

Surgery Day

This morning, July 28, 2011, Lubenson went into surgery with good spirits and a big smile!

Lubenson is borrowing Dr. Wolfe's glasses. :)

Lubenson is loving his time in the United States, and is most concerned with how he can bring that excitement to his friends at the orphanage. Typical Lubenson - always thinking about other people and wanting them to be as happy as he is. We know that God has his hand on Lubenson's life and are excited for his recovery.

Thank you to all of you who support and pray;
these are the moments when it means the most!

Lubenson's Initial Life-saving Surgery

The Rush for a Medical Visa
When Lubenson was only seven months old, the tumor that began to grow in his mouth four months earlier was so large that he struggled to eat, and even to breathe. After various attempts to get proper medical care both in Haiti and the Dominican Republic, the prayers and efforts of supporters like you helped to obtain a medical visa in one week—a process that typically takes months.

At Miami Children's Hospital, tests quickly revealed that this rare life-threatening tumor required immediate surgery. Lubenson spent most of a day in surgery with a team of dedicated doctors. Dr. Anthony Wolfe, a world-renowned specialist in facial reconstruction for children, was full of compassion and donated his services.

A Miracle Recovery
Following the surgery, Lubenson spent six days in the Intensive Care Unit. Even then, a lung collapsed and again, Lubenson was in a fight for his life. "With tears in my eyes, I held his hands and whispered in his ear, "You shall live and not die, and declare the works of the Lord,"" recalls Danita. (Psa. 118:17)

"It is difficult to find the right words to express my appreciation for all that was done to save Baby Lubenson's life. Every time I see him smile, I am filled with gratitude. Several doctors told me that Lubenson would never make it. But, as destiny would have it, faith, love, perseverance and compassion rewrote his-story," says Danita. She, along with all those involved in her ministry, believe that Lubenson is a special child...a fighter with a great purpose that God will one day reveal.

Lubenson Today
Since Lubenson's surgery in April 2006, he is full of life and getting stronger every day. He celebrated his first birthday on August 9, 2006. His first two words were "Mama" and "bye-bye". He is surrounded by the love and attention from his new brothers and sisters at the orphanage, and her family cannot thank you all those who prayed and supported him enough.

Next year he will need another surgery to reconstruct the roof of his mouth. However, the Lord has blessed him with a beautiful smile today. What a difference love can make!
