the Volunteer Coordination Program for Danita's Children
Whether on location in Ouanaminthe, Haiti, or in our stateside office in Orlando, Florida, we welcome you to join us in loving and caring for orphans.
We appreciate your willingness to serve—to put hope into action.
There are many ways to serve within the ministry of Danita's Children. For more ways you, your students, community or church can get involved stateside or in the field, contact us!
Orphanage
In
Haiti, we provide a loving home to over 75 orphans at our Hope for
Haiti Children's Center. They attend our school for half a day during
the week. The rest of the time, we nurture and care for them as their
family. As any parent knows, there are many constant needs for growing
children. You can assist us in many ways with this—teaching, mentoring,
playing, loving.
We encourage one-on-one contact with the children. Smiles and hugs go a long way for any child. Our children all know that God loves them, but to have that demonstrated through touch by other Christians is a tangible way to feel the love of God through you. Mentoring is also dear to our hearts, and there is always a special need for men to mentor our boys.
School
Nearly 600 children from our town of Ouanaminthe attend our school at the Hope for
Haiti Children's Center. Though the language barrier prevents most
Americans from the teaching environment, there are still many ways you
can have an impact on the school children. Through dramatic
presentations, musical productions and instruction, scientific
demonstrations, or many other creative way, the school children may be
exposed to creative explanations of various subjects through
demonstrations and interaction. Even productions such as
puppet shows or creative dramas can pass the language barrier and go
straight to the heart of the children.
Feeding Program
Nearly 17,000 meals are served monthly at the Hope for Haiti
Children's Center. Each student receives one meal daily as they attend
school. And, of course, we feed the children in our orphanage three
nutritious meals a day. You can imagine the constant work involved in
this service to our children. If you'd like to help in this area,
please let us know.
Church
As few
Americans speak Creole, the language barrier again prevents too much
involvement in our church services. However, if your group has a
presentation you think our congregation might benefit from, please
contact us. The Haitian Christians also love to hear a greeting and
encouragement from fellow believers, and we'd be glad to assist you
with an interpreter. There are always projects that a team of workers
can assist with also.
Projects
In
addition to major construction projects, we usually have several
projects in the works. Donations of clothing, shoes, and bedding always
needs to be sorted and organized. There is always a wall in need of
paint. The list goes on. Just let us know if you or your groups is
interested in helping with a project.
Medical Center
Medical
care is an enormous need for our community. The new medical center is a
huge new project we are undertaking to help meet that need. Though we
are poised now to begin the construction process, please keep this need
in mind as you consider a mission trip to Haiti. We will need a
constant supply of personnel—physicians, nurses, and other helpers. And
prescriptions and medical supplies will be a continuous need to keep in
stock. Please keep this is prayer—both the construction and your
possible role in this ministry.
Safari Sunday School
This
outreach to the community has been a ministry that we do
periodically as staffing allows. If your group is able to assist us
with this outreach to the children who aren't touched by our school,
please let us know your talents you might be able to contribute. Of
course, we will provide the interpreter!

Stateside
Our
U.S. office is located in Orlando, Florida. With
limited personnel, we would love to have you join our efforts. Utilizing volunteers in our offices keeps our administrative costs low and helps us send more to the children in Haiti. We have need of volunteers that can serve daily, weekly, monthly and occasionally. Our projects include office work, special projects, marketing, fund-raising, shipping, and lots more! If you
live in the central Florida area, we would welcome a few volunteer
hours a week, or whatever time commitment you're able to share. There's
always something going on that we could use help with. Contact us and become part of our team!
