

The History of Danita's Children and the
Hope for Haiti Children's Center
1998 Danita Estrella traveled to Haiti on a short-term mission trip.
1999 Danita moved to Haiti, not knowing what would happen.
2000 In January, the first orphans arrived.
2000 In May, the first classroom was started in a garage with 14 children.
2001 Hope for Haiti Children’s Center was founded by Danita.
2001 In July, Danita purchased the house she was renting for the orphanage.
2001 Land was purchased for Hope for Haiti Children’s Center.
2002 The feeding program was established.
2003 The church building was constructed.
2004 In October, 26 orphans arrived from Gonaives as a result of the floods.
2005 Construction of the boys’ dormitory and cafeteria was completed in December.
2006 Construction of a 3-story school building begins.
2007 In January, Danita celebrated her eight year anniversary since her arrival in Haiti.
2007 In February, our new playground was installed.
2007 In September, 540 children walked through the doors of our new school building.
2008 In September nearly 600 children attend our school.
2008 In November, ground is broken for the new pediatric medical center in Haiti.
2009 Danita's Children celebrates ten years in Haiti.
2010 On January 12, 2010, a 7.0 earthquake hits the capitol city of Port au Prince. Danita makes plans to rescue orphaned victims from earthquake and build a new orphanage to accommodate the new children.
2010 In March, 53 new children, victims orphaned and without a home as a result of the earthquake are added to the Danita's Children family.
